Bruno Henrique, forward of the Flamengo club, is being investigated in a case of alleged manipulation of sports bets in soccer matches, according to official sources reported this Tuesday. The investigation aims to establish whether the player, during a Brazilian league match in November 2023, would have intentionally received two yellow cards to benefit bettors, including his relatives, who are also under scrutiny, as reported by Agencia Brasil.
The Federal Police, in collaboration with the Public Ministry of Rio de Janeiro, executed twelve search and seizure warrants this Tuesday within the framework of the “Spot-fixing” operation. Although the names of those investigated were not revealed, the authorities warned that if the facts were confirmed, it would be a crime against the “uncertainty of the sporting result” established in the General Sports Law, which could carry penalties of up to six years in prison. .
Flamengo, for its part, expressed in a statement that it has not yet had access to the investigation documents due to the confidentiality of the summary, but indicated its willingness to collaborate with the authorities and assured its support for the player. The club stressed that Bruno Henrique has its “trust” and the “presumption of innocence.” Despite the investigation, the forward will continue with his usual sporting activities, including his trip to Belo Horizonte with the delegation for the second leg of the Brazilian Cup.
The case began after a communication from the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) based on reports from the International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) and Sportradar, entities that monitor transparency in sports betting.
