Flamengo gave up on signing Rafinha. The club opened a long negotiation to try to get the 35-year-old veteran back, but gave up the onslaught to respect his budget for the season.
Rafinha terminated with Olympiacos, from Greece, on February 2, less than six months after leaving the club. On several occasions, he reiterated his interest in returning to play for the two-time Brazilian champion. But the side and the board did not reach a common denominator in relation to their remuneration.
For the position, Flamengo already has the Chilean Mauricio Isla, hired last year to replace him. The cast also has youngsters revealed by Ninho, such as Matheuzinho, who was the titleholder in the victory over Resende, this Friday (19), for the Carioca Championship.
Popular figure in the locker room and among the fans, Rafinha was champion of the Libertadores and the Brazilian Championship in 2019 for Flamengo. Last year, he participated in the conquests of Supercopa do Brasil, Recopa Sul-Americana and the Campeonato Carioca.
