Flamengo draws with Talleres and is close to a vacancy

O Flamengo was behind on the scoreboard twice, but sought a 2-2 draw with Talleres, tonight (4), in Argentina, in a duel valid for the fourth round of the group stage of the Liberators cup. Rubro-Negro’s goals were scored by Arrascaeta and Pedro, both in the second half. Willian Arão (against) and Michael Santos played for the hosts.

With the result, Flamengo can guarantee qualification to the knockout stage tonight, if Universidad Católica-CHI does not beat Sporting Crystal-PER, in a duel that starts at 23:00 (Brasília time). The team from Rio leads Group H with 10 points, followed by Talleres (seven), Universidad Católica (three) and Sporting Cristal (zero).

Next Sunday, Fla turns its attention to the Brazilian championship and faces rival Botafogo, at 11 am, at Mané Garrincha stadium, in Brasília.

Flamengo live

Who did well: Arrascaeta tries to carry the team

Despite being closely watched by the men of Talleres, Arrascaeta was responsible for some good glimpses of the Rubro-Negro. With quick thinking and in-depth passes, the Uruguayan tried to take the team to the attack, but he lacked company in the duel in Cordoba. Still, he scored Fla’s first goal in Argentina, a painting from outside the area. Pedro, scorer of the equalizing goal, is another one worth mentioning.

Who was wrong: Isla leaves spaces

The Chilean Isla returned to make mistakes in the marking and his side was a good alternative for Talleres, including in the bid for the second goal of the home team. On the defensive line, the player gave generous spaces, and in one of the moves Arão’s own goal came out. When he broke free to act as a winger, he took little danger and drew attention when he managed to combine with Everton Ribeiro, another who played a very weak game. Willian Arão also had a bad performance, including the own goal.

Gabigol and Pedro together? It worked!

Pedro entered the field in the 22nd minute of the second half, with Flamengo losing 2-1. In the 23rd minute, the game was already tied, with a goal by the striker himself. In the move, Gabigol freed up space for his companion to infiltrate.

Legal position?

The goal scored by Michael Santos, the second for Talleres, was a reason for controversy. The attacker’s position was doubtful. As the group stage of Liberators does not have the aid of VAR, the field marking has been confirmed.

Safety! Santos is present

Goalkeeper chosen by Paulo Sousa to play in the World Cup matches, goalkeeper Santos justified the investment in his hiring. Shirt 20 was not so much used, but he made a very difficult save in a header from Matias Catalan and was safe whenever required. In the second goal of Talleres, he kicked and returned the ball for free to the hosts.

Flamengo’s performance

Flamengo, once again, showed serious defensive problems and gave up a lot of space to Talleres, especially in the Isla sector. In the first half, it was practically nil in attack. Even so, in the second half, Rubro-Negro proved resilient to return to the game on two occasions. The stellar cast made itself felt, and Paulo Sousa’s team came back with a point in their luggage.

Talleres performance

The Argentines made good use of the spaces provided by Flamengo and bet a lot on plays on the sides of the field. Defensively, Talleres suffered to hold Flamengo’s attack and conceded the draw twice.

unhappiness

In the 11th minute of the first half, defender Pablo felt pain in the posterior region of his left thigh, left the field on a stretcher and was replaced by Andreas Pereira. He will be re-evaluated at the Vulture’s Nest.

Chronology

In the 33rd minute of the first half, Arão tried to cut a cross and scored against it. Flamengo looked for an equalizer in a goal from outside the area of Arrascaeta, at 4 minutes of the second half.

Talleres returned to the front of the scoreboard with Michael Santos, at 11 of the final stage. Pedro, in his first move in the match, equalized the score again in the 23rd minute.

climate of peace

The camaraderie that marked the relationship between fans and managers of the teams followed before the ball rolled. President Rodolfo Landim visited Talleres’ CT and exchanged gifts with the representative of the Cordoba club.
