Flamenco Festival New York 2024: International Benchmark with Tribute to Paco de Lucía

The Flamenco Festival New York has become an international benchmark for this musical genre and has managed to attract fans and stars from all over the world. For two weeks the city will be filled with rhythm, passion and artoffering a unique experience for lovers of this artistic expression.

From next Friday, March 1 to Sunday, the 17th, lovers of this art will enjoy the talent of more than 150 artists, but this time they will join 80 who are already in New York. In addition, they will perform 44 presentations and 13 of them will be in the aforementioned city, while the rest can be enjoyed in Chicago, Washington DC, Los Angeles, Miami and Boston.

The performances will take place in prestigious theaters and cultural spaces, thus providing a unique platform for the dissemination and promotion of this genre internationally. With a selection of artists and innovative proposals, The Flamenco Festival New York 2024 promises to be an unforgettable event that will continue to consolidate art in the Big Apple.

Paco de Lucía will receive a tribute

It will soon be 20 years since the great Paco de Lucía made his last presentation in the Big Apple, although a decade has already passed since his physical departure. Therefore, a variety of Artists will take the opportunity to pay tribute to the outstanding guitarist for his contribution to flamenco.

Paco’s technique was always considered impeccable, as well as his creativity and passion for music made him an undisputed legend in the world of guitar. Below we will tell you the names that will be part of the tribute:

Tomatito, Paula Comitre, Rafael Riqueni, David de Arahal, Alejandro Hurtado, Raúl Cantizano, Sandra Carrasco, Manuel Liñán, Israel Fernández, Rycardo Moreno, Los Voluble, Antonia Jiménez, Alfonso Losa, María José Llergo, Diego del Morao, Olga Pericet and Inma La Carbonera, among others.

“Remembering Marchena”

José Tejada Martín, known as Pepe Marchena or El Niño de Marchena, was a musician who stood out for having been inspired by flamenco. At the age of 73, he died in Spain after being diagnosed with cancer in the esophagus and after almost five decades since his physical departure there will be a tribute on March 15.

Events from March 1 to 17

  • March 1st: opening of the festival at the iconic Town Hall in New York.
  • March 2 to 7: Tomatito will be present at Berklee Performance Center in Boston, although Wilshire Ebell Theater in Los Angeles will say goodbye.
  • 7 of March: Rafael Riqueni will appear at Elebash Recital Hall to pay tribute to Paco de Lucía. He, in turn, will also end said tribute, but at the Graduate Center of New York University.
  • March 8: Inma la Carbonera and Antonia Jiménez will commemorate ‘International Women’s Day’, where the residence of the Spanish ambassador in Washington DC was located.

  • March 8 to 10: The National Ballet of Spain will perform a tribute to Paco de Lucía at the New York City Center for three consecutive days.
  • March 13: Yotam Silverstein and Rycardo Moreno will have a show at Jazz Lincoln Center.
  • March, 15th: Olga Pericet and Antonio de Torre will have the responsibility of showing the work ‘La Leona’ at the New York City Center, this being another recognition of the career that Paco de Lucía had, while Pepe Marchena will also be remembered by David Arahal in ‘Le Poisson Rouge’.
  • March 16 and 17: Manuel Liñán, Paula Comitre, Yiyo, Sandra Carrasco and Alfonso Losa will remember Paco de Lucía at the New York City Center.
