Flag Burning Response, Cadre PDIP Merdeka Surabaya

We raised the PDI-P flag in our homes, in the villages or neighborhoods of each cadre,” said the Deputy Secretary of DPC PDI Perjuangan Surabaya, Anas Karno, in Surabaya, Monday (29/6).

According to him, raising the party’s flag as a form of obeying the daily orders of the Chairman of the DPP PDI Perjuangan, Megawati Soekarnoputri. In addition, he continued, the cadres must not be provoked and must submit the issue of burning political party flags to the legal route.


“To be honest, we are all angry. But we channel our anger well, which is reporting to the police and raising the party’s flag. The Chairwoman has ordered all of us to obey the law,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Chairperson of the Surabaya PDI-P DPC, Adi Sutarwijono, said at first they received a lot of frustration from the cadres related to the flag burning event. They all want to take to the streets.

“However, we are consolidating. We are all in a meeting, and according to Mrs. Megawati’s instructions, all cadres do not be provoked. We are steadfast in revolutionary patience and full confidence that ultimately the truth will win, Satyam Eva Jayate, as conveyed by Raden Wijaya,” he said.

The burning of the PDIP flag occurred during an action against the HIP Bill which was held by a number of Islamic organizations in front of the MPR / DPR Building on June 24.

During the action, the PDIP flag was burned along with the hammer and sickle flag. PDIP Chairperson Megawati Soekarnoputri responded to the burning of her party’s flag by inviting all cadres to be vigilant, unite, and pursue legal proceedings.

A number of witnesses have been summoned for questioning by the police in this incident. Chief of Police Public Relations Division Inspector General Argo Yuwono, Monday (29/6), said that there were five witnesses examined. The police will also immediately call an expert witness.
