The shocking news came from the latest press conference of the Indonesian Basketball League (IBL), Wednesday, December 29. After explaining about the progress of preparation for the new season, IBL Director, Junas Miradiarsyah, explained about the case of match-fixing (match fixing) in the previous season’s title.
“I got a few questions about the absence of some players in the IBL teams who will compete for next season. Here, I explain that there are six players involved in the case. match fixing, “buka Junas.
“These six players did match fixing in the IBL 2021 game which was held at Robinson Resort, Cisarua, Bogor Regency. Five of the six players were players from Pacific Caesar Surabaya and one was a player from Bali United Basketball. They are Aga Siedartha, Arisanda Djauharie, Gabriel Senduk, Yoseph Wijaya, Aziz Wardhana, and Yerikho Tuasela,” he continued.

IBL started an investigation after receiving a report from Pacific Caesar’s own team. Then, the investigations are matched against player statistics and on-field performance. Finally, the players above have also admitted their actions.
Junas also added that match fixing incidents occurred in the early matches of the regular season. Match fixing did not occur when Pacific Caesar met Bali United Basketball. Jericho acts as a liaison from outsiders to Pacific players.
Conceptually, the most common setting in basketball is the difference between a team’s winnings. For example, players are asked to arrange for their team to lose or win by a certain number of points difference. From here, players can play their part by deliberately not entering the ball or vice versa, as long as the expected point difference is reached.
IBL provides a ban on being involved in IBL for life and a fine of 100,000,000, – (one hundred million) rupiah to the players involved. The Perbasi party who was also present explained that each player also received a punishment in the form of a ban from being involved in all basketball activities under Perbasi. There are no official details yet, but it is stated that the minimum is one year while the maximum is four years.
Pacific Caesar, represented by Irsan Pribadi, also conveyed their situation. Here, Irsan asserts that all of the above incidents occurred at the initiative of the players involved themselves. The actions of these players do not reflect the values held by Pacific Caesar as the oldest team in the IBL.
“We regret this, but this is also the action of the players themselves. We even received reports from players who were not involved in match fixing. They themselves were not comfortable with the actions of their colleagues,” he said.
This is the second match fixing case to be uncovered since the IBL event was restarted in 2016. Previously, in 2017, a case like this was also revealed to the public and the players involved also received more or less similar fines and penalties.
Lastly, Junas hopes that this incident will not make the public see it as a setback. Rather, it is an attempt by the IBL to become an even more transparent league to the public.
The IBL 2022 season will start on January 15, 2022. Later, the IBL will release the list of players for each team on January 3, 2022. For now, IBL has received support from the government and related parties to organize the 2022 season with a series system like before the pandemic. Six series have been prepared for the regular season. Regarding the attendance of the audience, IBL has also received support. However, this is still tentative in line with the situation of the spread of COVID-19, especially after the New Year holiday. (DRMK)
