Fixed severe power outage in Haarlem area | Interior

The massive power outage that started just after 11pm Friday night in the Haarlem area was resolved by 4am Saturday morning. Around 30,000 households, large parts of Haarlem and parts of Spaarndam, Bloemendaal and the surrounding area were left in the dark after an explosion and fire at a high-voltage substation.

TenneT, which operates the national high-voltage grid, reported on Friday evening that a connection between Velzen and Waarderpolder had gone down at 23:07. Then the power went out in and around Haarlem.

According to the Kennemerland Safety Region, the cause of the malfunction was a fire at the Emrikweg high-voltage substation in Haarlem. The fire was extinguished after help arrived. A fire brigade spokesman said the power would be cut for “at least several hours”.

After TenneT restored power to the high voltage substation at 3:28 am, power could be restarted after all.
