“Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC): The New Revenue Source for Cellular Operators”

Jakarta

Currently para cellular operator increasingly fierce competition to work on fixed mobile convergence (FMC) as a new source of revenue for the company. According to Boss SmartfrenFMC is not a new service business.

As information, FMC is a combination of cellular and fixed broadband services that allows users to continue to be connected to the internet wherever and whenever. XL Axiata hooked Link Net to work on the FMC business until Telkom continues to finalize the IndiHome separation which will later be merged with Telkomsel for the FMC.

President Director of Smartfren Merza Fachys revealed that FMC is nothing new. He said this on the sidelines of the Internet Movement for Indonesia event in Jakarta, Tuesday (23/5).

He said that almost 80% of people spend a lot of their time quietly inside buildings, houses, malls, cinemas, and offices compared to the main streets. But, said Merza, they mostly use the internet via cell phones.

According to him, why do many people use cellphones because internet facilities enter their homes through it FMC not as many internet facilities have entered our hands via cellphones. However, as time goes by, the penetration of fixed internet at home and in buildings has become wider so that people are already feeling the impact of this service.

“If I’m at home, if I can not use wireless anymore, just use it from home via WiFi or whatever, don’t use cellular, but what if we make one service between at home via fixed and on the streets via cellular into one package, so it’s called FMC cool name, even though it’s been used to it,” he explained.

Talking about operator competition, Merza revealed that Smartfren is still doing well. According to him, this will become a necessity where in the end people will need both.

“I’m sure those who have a fixed line at home immediately switch to WiFi, when in the car because the WiFi can’t be carried around so we don’t want to be cellular. Nah, instead of us subscribing to this subscription itself why not become one. It’s even more interesting to be one big basket for a family of various product variations,” he added.
