This is stated by the police in a press release.
On Thursday at 5.30 pm, a five-year-old girl was reported missing from the Vardeneset area in Stavanger. Large resources were invested in the search for the girl, and witness observations gave direction to the search crews.
Just before 7.30 pm, the girl was found in the sea at Thorsastraen. She was unconscious when she was picked up, and an attempt was made to revive her on the spot before she was transported by air ambulance to Haukeland University Hospital.
Tonight, the girl was pronounced dead at the hospital.
The police do not suspect that the girl has been subjected to anything criminal.
– This appears to be a tragic event. The crisis team in Stavanger supports the relatives and others involved, and is available to those who need someone to talk to. The police have opened an investigation case, says police professional investigation leader in the South-West police district, Øyvind Tveit.
