the essentials in brief
Edison Juel started a fundraising campaign for the victims of the forest fires in Hawaii. The five-year-old stood on the street and sold lemonade for donations. He earned a total of 17,000 dollars with “Lemonade for Lahaina” in one weekend.
The wildfires on Maui, Hawaii caused devastation and a stir. Also a five-year-old boy from the USA, who was severely affected by the pictures on TV. So strong that he couldn’t just stand by and start a fundraiser.
“Lemonade for Lahaina”
As the mother of five-year-old Edison Juel, Ami, told USA Today, a lemonade sale in Colorado was the inspiration. So it went pretty quickly and Edison stood on the street under the motto “Lemonade for Lahaina”.
Armed with lemonade, toys, ice cream and lollipops, the young helper set about selling. “I thought maybe we could raise $100,” the mother told the medium. But she was wrong, because donations of 8,000 dollars were collected on the first day.
Have you ever conducted a street sale?
People were quite generous: a motorcyclist paid a full 100 dollars for a cup of lemonade. Another donation came through the donation portal Venmo in the amount of $500. Edison raised a whopping $17,000 over the weekend.
Now all the money is going to Maui. There it should help the people who suffer from the consequences of the devastating forest fires.
