A five-year-old child died after being struck by a vehicle in Mississauga, a suburb of Toronto, early Tuesday evening.

Emergency crews were called to the corner of Hurontario Street and Elm Drive around 5:30 p.m.
The child was riding a bicycle and was struck while trying to cross the road. The vehicle was traveling north on Hurontario Street, police said.
The boy died in the hospital.
Hurontario Street remained closed between Burnhamthorpe Road and Central Parkway Road for several hours to facilitate the work of investigators.
