Five ways to avoid tuberculosis

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Apart from COVID-19, there are several diseases that need to be in the spotlight during a pandemic, one of which is tuberculosis.

According to the Global TB Report 2020 data, this disease which also attacks the lungs occurs in Indonesia with the number of cases reaching more than 560 thousand cases.

By 2030, Indonesia has a target to be free from Tuberculosis. Therefore, a healthy lifestyle is one of the habits that Indonesians can do to avoid this contagious disease.

“Living a healthy life is very important to do, especially in the current pandemic era, because it can provide a lot of benefits for all of us. One of the benefits of healthy living habits is improving the quality of health and personal productivity,” said Dr. Asyahidatul Muchlisah Fitriana, Medical Consul. Pramita Clinical Laboratory in its official statement on Friday.

In commemoration of World Tuberculosis Day which falls on March 24, here are some things that can be done to create healthy habits according to the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia.

1. Doing physical activity

Even at home, physical activity should still be done regularly in order to increase endurance and the immune system.

Physical activity can be done with
simple ways, such as walking or while cleaning the house. Not only for physical health, exercise can also help reduce stress and control it
worry.

2. Eating vegetables and fruit

Vegetables and fruit are important for maintaining metabolism in the body. The content contained in fruits and vegetables can help the body to prevent many diseases. Everyone is advised to eat fruits and vegetables as needed
body.

3. Do not smoke

The negative health impacts of smoking can be felt by both active and passive smokers. Cigarettes contain substances that are toxic to organs (lungs, kidneys, liver, brain, and other organs). Cigarettes can also exacerbate existing diseases, or increase the risk of developing diseases, especially respiratory diseases.

There is also an association of smoking with pulmonary tuberculosis, such as increasing and exacerbating the risk of pulmonary TB infection.

4. Do not consume alcoholic beverages

There are many risks that may occur if you consume excessive alcohol. Some of the diseases that may occur are hepatitis, fatty liver, cancer, anemia, and
tuberculosis.

5. Keeping the environment clean

The external factor that affects the health of the body is our environment. If the environment is healthy, various sources of disease will not easily come into the body.

Cleaning the environment can also be a way to stay active. Conducting periodic health checks Health check or Medical Check Up (MCU) is a very preventive step
recommended to know the disease suffered and prevent possible complications for some diseases.

If we know the disease early on, the treatment that is carried out at a later date will be lighter.
