Five victims in the Western Balkans after powerful summer storms

Two men, a 50-year-old pedestrian and a 48-year-old driver, died in the Croatian capital Zagreb yesterday after trees fell, and dozens were injured, the Croatian portal “Index” reported. The Croatian State Hydrometeorological Institute indicated that wind speeds of 180 kilometers per hour were reported in places. The airport in Banja Luka is closed because hurricane winds have damaged the roof of the Airports of Republika Srpska enterprise.

The storm also reached Serbia on Wednesday evening, parts of the capital Belgrade and the Vojvodina region remained without electricity, a total of 15 people were evacuated, “Tanyug” reported. A girl was injured when a tree fell in the city of Novi Sad, but is in a stable condition.

A powerful summer storm with hurricane-force winds hit North-West Bulgaria this night.

For today, the National Institute of Metrology and Hydrology warns that the dangerously hot weather continues today.

Code Orange for temperatures with above 40 degrees has been announced for the districts of Blagoevgrad, Pazardzhik, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora and Haskovo.

It has been announced for the rest of the country’s regions code yellow with temperatures above 35 degrees.

IN Northwest Bulgaria and in the districts of Sofia-city, Sofia region and Pernik, yellow codes for storms and significant precipitation have been announced.

IN Northeast Bulgaria the codes are yellow for heat, storms and precipitation for the regions of Ruse, Silistra and Razgrad.

Many sunny hours await us today, again with high temperatures, but cumulus clouds will also develop. There will be short rains and thunder in some places. There will also be conditions for hail. The wind will be from the west-northwest and will temporarily increase, and in northern Bulgaria it will often be strong. The prevailing maximum temperatures will be between 34 and 39 degrees.

In the coming days, temperatures will rise again and exceed 40 degrees in some places. Many sunny hours await us. In a few places, there will be short-term rains and thunderstorms, according to the NIMH forecast.
