Hoekstra’s first attempt at marriage failed a few years ago when his youngest son got liver cancer. Attempt two would be in July last year. ,,A big party with all the bells and whistles”, he said earlier. “But we already threw that plan overboard in March or April.”

Attempt three would be in a small circle: last August – three days before the day – Hoekstra blew the party off anyway. The flowers had already been ordered and the rings and the wedding suit were also ready.
