More than 30% of women do not work full time. In the case of men, this percentage is only 6%.
The percentage of women working part-time is much higher than that of men, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (Statec), within the scope of International Women’s Day: more than 30% of women do not work full-time. In the case of men, this percentage is only 6%.
Regarding the reasons that lead women to reduce their working hours, Statec indicates that, for half, this decision is related to the family.
According to the latest data on equal pay, the average hourly wage of women is, for the first time in history, higher than that of men in Luxembourg. However, they continue to earn less if we look at the annual income because, precisely, they work less.
Regarding the weight of women in the labor market, the Statec underlines, however, that the difference between the genders has been decreasing. About twenty years ago, the employment rate for women was 54% and that for men was over 80%, and since then the proportion of working women has increased and that of men has decreased.
In 2021, 70% of women aged 20 to 64 had a job. Among men, this rate was 78%.
