The perfect poached egg is pure gratification. But how does it work? I tried five TikTok hacks and I’ll show you the results.
I ate my first poached egg in New Zealand in the form of an Egg Benedict.
At that time I had absolutely no idea how to prepare such a beautiful egg that was so runny on the inside. Ever since then, I’ve tried and failed to make a perfect poached egg. In the classic preparation, the egg is beaten into boiling water to which vinegar has been added. To do this, create a whirlpool so that the egg does not fray in the water and annoying threads of protein do not swim around in the water. Somehow this has never worked very well for me. In the end, the egg always tasted too much of vinegar, wasn’t really runny on the inside or wasn’t set on the outside. And above all: never as beautiful as on TikTok, Instagram and Co.
So I started looking for a few hacks. Stepping into the world of TikTok hacks at the TikTok glitter egg, I quickly found five promising hacks for the perfect poached egg. I tried them all for you and came to a conclusion:
1. Poached egg with the classic preparation
As always, the hacks didn’t work at all! The result was so ugly that I didn’t even want to photograph it. If you want to let the pro chef hang out, then by all means be prepared for a lot of attempts at practice.
2. Poached egg with the kettle
When the egg was opened, the egg white was still half transparent. That’s why I just threw it into the hot water again. Unfortunately, this has led to the fact that the protein has said goodbye in all directions. It still tasted good. The egg white was firm at the end while the yolk ran all over the plate. Eleven minutes is also an extremely long time. Not my thing.

3. Microwave poached egg
Definitely the most relaxed and quickest way to get one poached egg close. I used a cup that was unfortunately a little too thick-walled. After a minute at 600 watts, the protein was still slightly liquid. With a bit of fine-tuning, it’s definitely a really good method.
4. Poached egg from the soup ladle
The result was a beautiful poached egg. Beauty definitely 10/10. Consistency of the yolk and egg white also 10/10. The only drawback: You have to hold the soup spoon over the pot for a few minutes. Two hands=Two eggs. That’s going to be difficult. Rather a single method.
5. Poached egg in cling film
My absolute favorite hack! Give the egg some space and don’t twist it too tightly. Otherwise the egg white in the middle won’t be completely white. Otherwise, there is absolutely nothing wrong with this hack. Idiot-proof and simply always a perfect result. You can prepare several eggs and then put them all in the pot at once. Just awesome.
For comparison, the results of the Hack Test for perfectly poached eggs:
The fastest way to prepare the perfect poached egg is in the microwave. The poached eggs are particularly attractive and have the best consistency if you wrap them in cling film or hold them in water in a soup ladle. The method of dousing the egg with water from the kettle takes far too long and isn’t particularly satisfying. You can try the hacks at home. The effort is definitely worth it for the perfect result!
