The world is now connected. Every day more people join the network, from online games, virtual classrooms popularized by the pandemic, to the unbridled and almost frantic use of social networks such as TikTok, Facebook and Instagram.
However, what until a while ago seemed to be a privilege for the oldest, has become a reality for the little ones.
Large technology companies have taken on the task of creating digital social interaction products designed to capture children’s attention and make them surf the web.
Although the offer in this digital scenario child is still very small, in Latin America, according to a study carried out by Facebook among 5,000 parents of children between 7 and 12 years old, about 93% of them affirmed that their children have access to a computer, a tablet or some device of connection; while 90% assured that they did not have control of their children’s navigation and that they did not know how to do it either.
According to Alfredo Oliva, doctor of psychology specializing in adolescence, the use of social networks in the younger population has positive effects, but also a long list of possible risks.
According to the expert, the key to avoiding technological addictions and dependence is in the establishment of loving and honest relationships between parents and children, where the control of navigation is not seen as a form of “imprisonment of freedom.”
