40 proposals have been selected within the framework of the participatory budget of the city of Bordeaux, and the population of Bordeaux has until January 31st to elect the 5 best ones. Rue89 Bordeaux has noticed some projects.
From December 15th to January 31st, it is possible to vote on various projects within the participatory budget of the city of Bordeaux. This second edition, launched in May 2022, selected 40 proposals. All respect the theme “Together and solidarity” chosen to “fight against discrimination, promote intergenerational encounters, intercultural ties…”. The objective is also to encourage the proposals of associations and collectives (of two people), in order to contribute to social cohesion.
For this second edition, 2 million euros will be spent over 2 years. The selected projects were reworked and perfected with the municipal services, from September to November, before being put to a vote. Five proposals will thus be able to be chosen by the public, through the online platform, at the town hall or in the district town halls. Here are five projects that caught the attention of Rue89 Bordeaux for their originality and their usefulness to a large audience.
Solidarity lockers for the homeless
This initiative led by Free – Gironde Solidarity, aims to limit the thefts suffered by the homeless, providing them with a locker to store their personal belongings. In addition to protecting their property, these lockers, installed in public spaces, would also contribute to the social reintegration of the beneficiaries. This project exists elsewhere in France, developed by Emmaüs Alternatives in several cities, such as Montreuil, Annecy or Clermont-Ferrand.
In exchange for using them, they would agree to meet regularly with a social worker and then gradually help them get off the street. 32,000 euros are needed to carry out the project.
Plancha furniture in public space
Also dedicated to the homeless, this project by the workers of Stalingrad daily stop consists of creating a mobile plancha pulled by an electric bicycle. It would thus be easier to meet people who live on the street to suggest they prepare and then share a meal together.
According to the collective, “this project could be an opportunity for a partnership with local merchants (…) to collect unsold items and cook them the same evening”. Eventually it could involve all residents of Bordeaux. 20,000 euros are required to carry out the initiative.
Artistic fabrics to shade certain squares and streets of Bordeaux
The cultural association The colors of the Garonne proposes to create shading systems, from fabrics, nets, ropes, CD discs and other materials. 60% of the material used will come from recycling.
These creations will be dedicated to protecting certain squares and streets in the Chartrons and Grand Parc districts from the sun. They will be created by an intergenerational public (retirement homes, senior citizens’ centres, primary schools, colleges), in turn supervised by visual artists. For this project, useful (to combat the heat) and poetic, the association is asking for 165,000 euros.
Nests at the Grand Parc
Led by the Bordeaux Builders of Biodiversity, the initiative aims to combat the decline of biodiversity, which is in decline. According to the collective, the local fauna is not sufficiently taken into account: the design of the building from the 60s and 70s at the Grand Parc, as well as its renovation in recent years, are an example of this according to its members.
These nest boxes would therefore make it possible to protect the birds by offering them an anchor point. Their design would also allow for social ties to be created involving local primary and secondary school children, as well as the elderly. 10,000 euros are needed to carry out the project.
Installation of multisport tables
This concept, which allows for a varied sporting practice, has a name: teqball. On this table almost similar to a ping-pong table, it is possible to practice 5 different sports, derived from volleyball, football, ping-pong, tennis and handball. Teqball also allows people with limited mobility to participate. Even children are invited.
Therefore, the project leaders, a group of friends, hope to gather a large audience around this practice. €35,000 is required to install these tables, which are intended to be “complementary to the sports infrastructure already in place” in Bordeaux.
All offers are available on the city website. The results will be known next February and the winners will implement their project from March.
