Five people died when a bus fell into a river in northwest Spain

Rescuers rushed to find survivors on Sunday after a bus plunged into a river off a bridge in Galicia, north-west Spain, killing at least five people.

According to the authorities, the incident occurred on Saturday, on Christmas Eve, in the town of Serdido-Cotobad, near Vigo, near the border with Portugal.

There were eight or nine people on the bus traveling between the cities of Lugo and Vigo. Two people, the bus driver and a passenger, were rescued and taken to hospital.

According to Galicia’s emergency department, which posted a tweet with an image showing the bus falling to the bottom of a swollen river, at least five people died in the crash.
