Focus recalls how Elizabeth II celebrated previous anniversaries of her reign.
diamond jubilee
In 2012, the Queen of Great Britain celebrated the sixtieth anniversary of her ascension to the throne. She became the second monarch in the history of the country after Queen Victoria to celebrate such a date. In honor of the Diamond Jubilee, all kinds of commemorative events were held in the country throughout the year. The celebration culminated in four days at the beginning of June.
One of the most striking events was a colorful parade of thousands of boats and ships, the centerpiece of which was the royal barge Spirit of Chartwell (“Spirit of Chartwell”) with Elizabeth II and members of the royal family. A similar parade was last held in the middle of the 17th century.
For the solemn event, the queen chose a white outfit with silver and gold studs and an unusual matching hat. The royal outfit was complemented by a three-strand pearl necklace and a brooch in the form of a silver star, which the monarch attached to her left shoulder.

Also an important event during the four-day celebrations on the occasion of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee was a thanksgiving service in St. Paul’s Cathedral, followed by a royal procession through the streets of London and the exit of Elizabeth II to the balcony of Buckingham Palace. Next to the monarch were Prince Charles, his wife Camilla, Prince William with his wife Kate Middleton and Prince Harry.

For the thanksgiving service, the queen chose a suit of the finest pale turquoise silk, embroidered with tiny star-shaped patterns. The image of Elizabeth II was complemented by a hat and gloves. Pinned to her chest was a precious brooch consisting of two diamonds, the largest Cullinan diamond in the world . In the royal family, this brooch is jokingly called Granny’s Chips (it can be translated as “grandmother’s chips”), meaning that the diamonds were chipped from a huge diamond.

golden anniversary
In 2002, the Queen of Great Britain celebrated the 50th anniversary of her ascension to the throne. The main festivities traditionally took place in early June. One of the most memorable events was the appearance of Elizabeth II and Prince Philip in a golden four-ton carriage of the eighteenth century, worth a million dollars, drawn by eight horses. Together with her husband, the queen attended a thanksgiving service at St. Paul’s Cathedral, after which she went to a festive parade in her honor, which was attended by about 20 thousand people. At the end of the festivities, 26 aircraft swept over Buckingham Palace, among which was the Concorde supersonic airliner.

ruby anniversary
Celebrating the 40th anniversary of her accession to the throne in 1992, Queen Elizabeth II called that year “terrible” and stressed that she would hardly ever remember it with pleasure.
“1992 is not a year that I will look back on with undisguised pleasure,” the Queen said. The fact is that shortly before the Queen’s Ruby Jubilee, her family survived the divorce of Prince Andrew from Sarah Ferguson, the divorce of the Queen’s daughter, Princess Anne, as well as the publication of a candid biography of Princess Diana, which described the details of her unhappy marriage to Prince Charles, and in conclusion – fire at Windsor Castle.
Her famous speech called “Annus Horribilis”, in which the queen regretfully recalled all the difficult events of 1992, she delivered in the Town Hall, choosing a dark green dress and matching hat for this event. The queen had pearl threads around her neck, and a brooch was pinned on her left shoulder.
