A group of unmasked protesters walked into a Burger King in New York City, a city where proof of vaccination is required to eat indoors. Police arrested five members of the group who refused to leave the restaurant.
Five people were taken into custody on December 27 by police in New York on the sidelines of a demonstration against the city’s compulsory vaccination. Their arrest in a fast-food restaurant in Brooklyn, which was filmed, is strongly relayed on the networks.
A group of protesters, unmasked, entered a Burger King to order food. However, in New York, customers are required to present proof of their vaccination in order to eat indoors (as in France), which protesters refused to do. The restaurant then appealed to the police when the group repeatedly refused to leave the fast food restaurant.
Footage from the incident shows an imposing cordon of police officers at the scene and protesters chanting “Shame on you!” and “Do not obey”. Five people aged 36 to 44 were arrested.
Several hundred demonstrators on December 27
Several hundred people took to the streets of New York on December 27 to express their opposition to the mandatory vaccination mandates taken by outgoing mayor Bill de Blasio, who announced them earlier this month to deal with the threat of the Omicron variant.
In the American megalopolis, the vaccination obligation for private sector employees came into effect on the morning of December 27. Municipal employees were already subject to it since November 1. In addition, children aged 5 to 11 must show since December 14 that they have received a dose of vaccine to participate in “high-risk extracurricular activities such as sport, music and dance”, according to the town hall.
