Apple first showed it to the world at the beginning of June as part of its opening Keynote at WWDC24. Subsequently, he released beta versions of the system among developers and the general public, so that now, a week after the Keynote, he will present the operating system iOS 18 in a sharp version on iPhone 16 phones. There is a lot of news. Here are five of the most exciting iOS 18 major news worth checking out.
It is supposed to be the biggest change to the operating system since the release of iOS 7, which brought a “flat” design. iOS 18 will provide unexpected options for personalizing the appearance, but if you don’t look for them, nothing much will change for you. After updating the operating system, your iPhone will look the same as before, only you will find the Passwords application on the desktop.
iOS 18 compatibility
This year, Apple did not remove any iPhones from supporting the new mobile operating system. It can be said that if you have iOS 17 running on your iPhone, you can also run iOS 18 on it.
Desktop personalization
Android has actually been able to do this since its first version, Apple only offers the option to rearrange the icons on the desktop according to the user’s wishes, when there can be spaces between them, only in iOS 18. Until now, the icons have always been strictly arranged from the top left corner. Now you can also recolor them. Apple offers the option to switch them to a dark mode, you can also give them a color tint.
How to edit desktopTouch and hold your finger on the desktop. Once the icons start to shake, you can position them as needed (this also applies to widgets). When you click on the Edit menu in the top left and choose Customize, the colors of the icons can be changed. For example, the option Automatically changes their appearance according to the set dark mode of the device itself.
Control Center
Apple has been criticized a lot for squandering the possibilities of the Control Center, which, in contrast, did not have a greater degree of personalization in Android. However, that has now completely changed. On its right side you can see the total number of pages. There are three by default – favorites, music and connections – but you can add more.
How to customize the Control Center On iPhones with Face ID, open Control Center by swiping from the top right corner. On those with Touch ID, slide your finger upwards from the center of the display. At the top left is the Plus symbol, which opens up the center’s editing options. You increase the size of the element through the reinforced frame, and position it by simply dragging. Use the Add control option to add additional controls.
Photos
One of the most used iOS applications, Photos, has seen the biggest changes. They have lost the individual cards and now you can find everything on one “page”. You’ll see your latest photos and screenshots and videos first, followed by recommendations like your entries from the last few days, people and pets, collections and memories, and media types and other albums at the bottom.

How to edit what Photos show When you scroll all the way down, you’ll find the Customize and Edit Layout option. Here you can easily rearrange the order of collections and albums according to your needs. All you have to do is hold the three lines to the right of each of the offers. If you turn off the check box, you will no longer see this section.
Application Passwords
Until now, all your passwords and access data have been stored in the system as such. You had access to them in Settings. But now Apple is making them more visible to users through a separate application that will appear on your desktop after the update. There are no complications here. Passwords are clearly divided into several sections according to their type. Everything can be shared
How to create new passwords If you want to manually create a new password or login, just tap on the Plus symbol located at the bottom right of the app’s main screen.
News
Apple is trying to further popularize its Messages application because it sees clear competition from popular messengers such as WhatsApp, Messenger, Telegram, Viber and others. Therefore, it adds many new functions to them, such as formatting in bold, italics, and even underlining or strikethrough. The text can also enlarge, shake, shake, etc. In addition, the company has also improved the options of the Tapback gesture, i.e. holding the message for a long time. So you can respond to it with any emoticon or sticker.
An important improvement is the ability to schedule a time to send a message. Support for RCS messages has also been added, which you will appreciate when communicating if the other party uses an Android device. In this way, you can mutually see the confirmation of delivery, reading, and the media content also works correctly.
How to set a message to be sent later In the Messages app, tap the Plus symbol and select the Send Later menu.
What iOS 18 doesn’t bring
Above all, anything from Apple Intelligence is missing. Apple did not have time to adequately test its AI before the release of iOS 18, so the supported markets, which do not include the Czech Republic, will wait until iOS 18.1, probably at the end of October. For other markets, Apple will release the feature gradually until the release of iOS 18.4.
