A research center on sport and rehabilitation. It will be built in view of the Milan – Cortina Winter Olympics and Paralympics in the Lecco Complex of the Milan Polytechnic. A contribution of almost 5 million has been allocated by the Lombardy Region. The research center will be set up in the historic building of the Polytechnic of Lecco, a valuable asset. The intervention involves the complete internal strip out and the rationalization of the spaces: there will be classrooms for teaching, centers of competence linked to the topics of rehabilitation, personalized medicine, inclusive sport, a conference room, meeting rooms, and some administrative offices . The main focus will be the Living Lab, as the primary place where solutions for training, strengthening, active living, rehabilitation, prevention and people’s safety will be designed and developed. “A cutting-edge project – underlines the regional councilor for University, Research and Innovation Alessandro Fermi -. What will be achieved in the Lecco University Center will have a positive impact on the entire territory. At the Polytechnic of Lecco they have been investing in research for a long time on sport and rehabilitation: there are already 6 research laboratories in the fields of rehabilitation, assistive technologies, movement analysis; there is the E4 Sport Lab which brings together the various engineering and design skills available to sport; the ExaLab platform which allows the monitoring of ergometers within immersive environments for the simulation of sports and physical activity; there are also many ongoing projects on physical well-being. “The new center will improve health and rehabilitation services beyond the Games”, underlines the regional undersecretary Mauro Piazza.
