Five members of Madeiran family infected after trip to Spain

A Madeiran citizen who returned to the Region in the last few days after a trip to Spain ended up infecting four family members with the new coronavirus, in what are, until now, the only cases of local contagion of the disease. In fact, three of the four new cases announced this afternoon, at the press conference of IASaúde / Regional Government to assess the situation of Covid-19 in Madeira, relate to this household resident in Funchal. This family “is being monitored by the health authority of Funchal, which continues to investigate and monitor the entire process of treating the family,” said the vice president of IASaúde, Bruna Gouveia. For the regional secretary of Health, Pedro Ramos, the way this contagion was found serves as a guide for the preventive measures that are being taken.

The fourth new case of infection announced today concerns a Madeiran citizen who returned this week from the United Kingdom and who is part of the group of passengers who were quarantined at the Quinta do Lorde hotel, and the infection was detected in tests carried out afterwards. to be confined to Caniçal. The vice president of IASaúde explained that the dozens of passengers are being progressively subjected to tests, assuming, therefore, that the possibility of being detected any more cases of infection in the referred group is not ruled out.

With today’s balance, the Region has 20 cases of infection with Covid-19.

Region to have production line for protective masks

Madeira will soon have its own production line of protective masks for healthcare professionals dealing with Covid-19 cases. The process involves production with three-dimensional printers and is being tested by the Regional Agency for the Development of Research, Technology and Innovation (ARDITI), an organization linked to the University of Madeira, in a project that is accompanied by the regional departments of Education and Health.

This news was revealed, this afternoon, by the regional secretary of Health, Pedro Ramos. The same official also announced that ARDITI is working on a computerized georeferencing platform for Covid-19 cases in Madeira, which could be useful in the event of greater contagion in the local community.

In addition, the set of equipment and protective materials for health professionals who arrived today on a military aircraft to Madeira was described: 4,500 protective suits, 1,500 FP2 masks, 15,000 pairs of gloves, 15,000 surgical masks and 150 sets of glasses protection. On Friday the military aircraft carries more equipment, and the secretary of health once again assured that there is no shortage of protective articles.

Private donated 27 fans

Meanwhile, Pedro Ramos said that, in the past few days, different private entities have donated 27 fans to the Region, which will be added to the existing capacity of 99 fans in the Regional Health System (most of which at SESARAM). However, he stressed that, so far, none of the 20 people infected with Covid-19 in the Region have needed that equipment.
