Five-Member Thieves Arrested in Tsim Sha Tsui Gold and Silver Store Robbery

Five-member thieves who tried to rob a gold and silver store in Tsim Sha Tsui, Hong Kong’s busiest district, were arrested in just 20 seconds. The sight of people smashing display cases with hammers and surrendering helplessly when they saw the police arrive was caught on the shop’s CCTV and made public in the local media and social media.

According to Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post (SCMP) on the 8th, the incident took place at a gold and silver room in downtown Tsim Sha Tsui around noon the previous day. Five men got out one by one from a white car on the road in front of the shop, and without hesitation, they hurried towards Geumeunbang. There were three who had hammers in their hands, and two who had knives in their hands.

The men who entered the shop were performing their duties as if they had made an appointment. Some with hammers began to break display cases by force, while others with knives threatened workers. However, their offense stopped in just 20 seconds. This was due to the quick deployment of police officers who were hiding nearby after receiving advance information.

Looking at CCTV footage of the situation at the time, the thieves intended to smash the display case, but before they could even touch the jewellery, they dropped the weapons they were carrying keep on the floor. This is because they found police officers pointing guns at them. All the robbers raised their hands and went down. He was then completely subdued by the handcuffs that the police put on him.

Hong Kong police said no items were stolen in this incident. In addition, the five people arrested were all of South Asian descent and some were suspected of being illegal immigrants because they did not have identification cards. They were all arrested as red-handed criminals and taken to the police station, and the police are investigating if there are more supporters.
