The end of an era, that of the coal mining, opens the way to renewable energy. The central mountain of León has become, in recent times, the place chosen by various companies to project their wind farms. Specifically, five projects and three companies intend to ‘crown’ their peaks with giants of wind, which has generated a division of opinions. On the one hand, those who believe that it can be beneficial for the districts that will receive money for the installation of these structures, on the other, those who consider that in addition to being renewable they have to be sustainable and that the environmental cost would be too high.
The global investment is around 150 million euros for these five projects called Eliano, Abano, El Puerto I, Barrios de Gordón and La Cota Grande, which would affect the municipalities of Cármenes, Valdelugueros, Valdepiélago, Matallana de Torío, La Pola de Gordón, La Robla, Carrocera and Villamanín, in the central mountain.
The energy commitment promoted by Green Capital Development y Green Envelopment II focuses on the Abano wind farms -which will affect the municipalities of Cármenes, Valdelugueros, Valdepiélago and Matallana de Torío- and Eliano -in the municipalities of Carrocera, La Pola de Gordón and La Robla- totaling an investment of 47 million . The Abano project will have an estimated power of 76 MW and will involve the installation of 17 mills, while for the Eliano park, a power of 54 MW and the installation of twelve wind turbines is estimated.
Naturgy raises two projects with a global investment that exceeds 95 million euros. On the one hand, at the end of June the request for administrative authorization of the wind farm called ‘Barrios de Gordón’, in the municipalities of La Pola de Gordón, Carrocera and La Robla, was submitted to public information. A project with 12 wind turbines with a nominal power of 4,160 kW, a total power of 49.92 MW and a budget of 47 million. This same week the request for administrative authorization of the wind farm called ‘La Cotada Grande’, in the municipalities of Cármenes, Valdelugueros and Valdepiélago, was submitted to public information. The project includes 15 wind turbines with a nominal unit power of 3,330 kW, a total power of 49.95 MW, and a total budget of 48 million, according to the Official Gazette of Castilla y León (Bocyl) of September 3.
In February 2018, the administrative authorization, declaration of public utility and approval of the project of the experimental wind farm ‘El Puerto I’, promoted by the company Boreas Tecnología in the municipality of Villamanín. With an investment of five million, the installation of a single wind turbine of 5,000 kilowatts of unit power is contemplated, with a steel tower that can reach 95 meters of hub height and a three-bladed rotor of 132 meters in diameter. The project also includes its own indoor transformation center, which raises the voltage from 690 to 13,200 volts. After requesting a postponement of the environmental clearance, it has been granted an extension until the end of 2021.
