At least five people have been killed in a rocket attack on an apartment building in the eastern Ukrainian city of Dnipro. According to the governor, 27 people were also injured. The attack happened today, with the Orthodox New Year.
Ukrainian President Zelensky has expressed his condolences on Twitter for the victims. He says the rubble is still being cleared and that “we are fighting for every person, every life”. He posted a video of the damage to the flat with the tweet.
It is the first attack under the command of newly appointed Russian commander Gerasimov. Military bloggers and analysts expected him to be the battle would intensify. How exactly was not clear at the time.
Also missiles on other cities
Other cities in different areas of Ukraine have also been bombarded with Russian missiles. In Kharkov, in the east, and Lviv, in the west, the missiles targeted essential infrastructure, local officials said.
And in the capital Kiev, air defense systems and critical infrastructure were targeted, the mayor says.
