Investigators rule out the possibility that the attack had terrorist motives
A Somali refugee has been detained by Italian police after stabbing four women and a six-year-old boy in the resort town of Rimini, the Associated Press and Reuters reported.
Investigators rule out the possibility that the attack had terrorist motives and suspect that the 26-year-old man was acting under the influence of drugs. Interior Minister Luciana Lamorgese called the incident extremely serious and said in a statement that she would visit Rimini tomorrow to attend a meeting of security forces.
Luciana Lamorgese has been criticized by the leader of the anti-immigrant League party, Matteo Salvini, who has asked her to take tougher measures against illegal migration. After the incident, he criticized her again in a video on Facebook.

The perpetrator, whose name is not mentioned, stabbed two inspectors who asked for his ticket. He then fled and injured three other people before being caught by police. Among the injured is a six-year-old boy who was sitting with his mother at an open market. The boy underwent surgery and is in critical condition.
The 26-year-old Somali has been in Europe since 2015 and has already applied for refugee status in Denmark, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands. However, they were rejected by the authorities, the AP notes. He had also applied for refugee status in Italy, living in a refugee shelter run by a Catholic charity.
