Five in a row for the Hockey Pioneers

The Collège de Rimouski Hockey Pioneers extended their winning streak to five when they defeated the Dynamiques du Cégep de Sainte-Foy 5-1 in a match presented at the Amphithéâtre Desjardins in Mont-Joli.

Jean-Christophe Lebrun, Noah Belzile, Justin Desrosiers, Vincent-Xavier Gendron and Maxime Gagné have the goals for the Pioneers.

William Castonguay stopped 36 pucks for the victory.

“The score does not necessarily represent the game. We really worked hard. In terms of dedication, it’s our match of the season. Last week, we lost two players due to injuries and on Saturday, we lost François-Xavier Mercier, a guy from our first line, for a tackle from behind. We then lost Jérémie Leclerc so we had to play two periods with ten attackers and five defenders. There are guys who ended up in different chairs. That didn’t stop our power play from finishing 4 for 5 and our penalty kill with 7 for 8,” explains Sébastien Dénommé with satisfaction.

It is certain that Samuel Miousse, victim of a broken collarbone, will be absent until the holidays. In Leclerc’s case, he was taken out of Saturday’s match as a preventative measure.

Pioneers

Saturday night in Mont-Joli, the Pionnières had a bad one in the system when they were downgraded 11-0 by Drummondville.

The next day at the Desjardins Sports Complex, the Pionnières put up a much better battle, losing 3-1 to the Voltigeurs.

Audrey Albert scored the goal for the Rimousk team who saw their opponent break the 1-1 tie midway through the third before scoring in an empty net.

“We showed great strength of character and resilience on Sunday. A great team effort allowed us to play a very good, hard-fought match. Unfortunately we were not able to capitalize on our scoring chances. Despite a result that went against us, I am very satisfied with the team’s effort and match,” explains Jean-François Duchesne.
