The Tenerife Firefighters Consortium has taken control, after five hours of work, the fire declared this afternoon on a farm in Bajamar, in the municipality of La Laguna, which forced the eviction of twelve people from an annexed farm.
The fire has affected a palm grove and stubble farm and the GES helicopter has already withdrawn, which has been unloading throughout the afternoon. From now on the work will focus on refreshment and cooling tasks for its extinction.
The GES helicopter, several vehicles from the La Laguna and Santa Cruz Fire Station, volunteer firefighters from Tegueste and La Laguna, as well as members of Civil Protection and the Local Police have participated in the extinction efforts.
The fire was considered stabilized around 4:00 p.m. and it was possible to contain the flames in the Barremoto area, where work was done to control and extinguish it. Half an hour later, the fire front was still stabilized and work was done in several areas to prevent the fire from rising.
The GES helicopter supported the extinction in the palm grove area where no water reached due to the vegetation cover. The wind made the extinction work difficult and revived what had been extinguished by the helicopter, so it returned to affect more water discharges in the affected area.
Meanwhile, the members of the Firefighters Consortium worked distributed in different fronts of the fire until, after five hours of work, it was declared controlled.
