High costs in the corona intensive care unit
It is of course no secret that treating corona patients in intensive care units costs a lot of money. But how high this amount actually is per patient – very few people are sure of that. Costs over 30,000 euros per patient
Intensive treatment costs around 1,500 to 3,000 euros a day, according to Andreas Weichert, Head of Hospital Financing for the State Hospital Society. Several intensive care physicians had estimated the average length of stay of Covid patients in intensive care units at two to three weeks.
Spokespersons for AOK Plus and Barmer said that the health insurance companies paid an average of around 32,000 to 33,000 euros for the treatment of an invasively ventilated corona patient in an intensive care unit. Without invasive ventilation, the health insurers paid around 8,000 euros.
