Five detainers arrested after catch of 3.4 tons of cocaine in … (Beveren-Waas)

Five Dutch people were arrested late last week after no fewer than 3.4 tons of cocaine were found in a container in the Waaslandhaven. The council chamber in Dendermonde has decided today that four of them will remain in prison.

In the early morning of Friday, June 26, 2020, during a check in the Waaslandhaven, no less than 3.4 tons of cocaine were found in a container. The drugs were hidden between a load of charcoal. The container came from a ship that came from Paraguay.

“Five suspects were arrested on site by the Antwerp Shipping Police. It concerns five Dutch people between 18 and 26 years old, ”says the public prosecutor’s office of East Flanders.

The suspects were brought before the investigating judge in Dendermonde that same day. All five were arrested.

Today the council chamber in Dendermonde decided that four out of five suspects will remain in prison. On Friday 3 July, the council chamber will decide on the further arrest of the fifth suspect.

“The investigation is ongoing,” says the public prosecutor’s office. The seized drugs quickly have a street value of 170 million euros.
