The Italian duo Simone Bolelli / Fabio Fognini then lost to Maximo Gonzalez and Horacio Ceballos.

In the second group match, Sweden lost 1-2 to Croatia.

Italy have two wins after two rounds, Sweden and Croatia each have one, but Argentina have not yet won.

In Hamburg, Kevin Kraveicz and Tim Pietz helped the hosts win 2-1, beating Belgians Sander Gilles / Joran Fliegen 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5) in the decisive doubles.

Germany’s victory led Belgium and France, who lost their first two Group C matches, to qualify for the play-offs. Australia also has two wins.

At home in Glasgow, in their 50th Davis Cup game with Great Britain, Andy Murray and Joe Salisbury lost double by losing 1-2 to the Netherlands.

In Group D, the Netherlands and the USA have two wins each, while Great Britain and Kazakhstan have two losses each.

Finally, in Group B in Valencia, Carlos Alcaraz, the youngest men’s world number one at 19, lost to Canadian Felix Auger-Aliassim 7-6 (7-3), 4-6, 2-6 after having won the US Open in his home country, with Spain conceding Canada 1-2 superiority and the Spaniards still not securing a place in the playoffs.

Alcaraz did not play in Spain’s 3-0 win over Serbia on Wednesday.

In the group, all teams retain their chances of fighting for the Davis Cup. Canada has two wins, Spain and Serbia each have one, but South Korea is still winless.
