Authorities reported that Police are investigating five separate shootings that occurred Monday night on Interstate 5 in Washington state..
According to the Washington State Patrol, several people were injured in the incidents. It is unclear whether the five shootings are related.
A suspect whose vehicle was sought in connection with several of the shootings was arrested in the Tacoma area early Tuesday, police said.
The first shooting occurred on northbound I-5 at 320th Street in King County, according to Washington State Patrol District 2 spokesman Trooper Rick Johnson.
Only one passenger was injured, Johnson said.
Just 15 minutes after the initial report, police said they received a call about a shooting on northbound I-5 near MLK. No one was injured in that incident, but one vehicle was damaged.
A third shooting was reported shortly afterward on northbound I-5 at Interstate 90. The Seattle Fire Department said its crews treated a 20-year-old woman who was in critical condition, according to Seattle ABC affiliate KOMO.
The fourth and fifth shootings occurred on southbound I-5 near State Route 18 and near 54 in Pierce County. An unspecified number of people were injured in both incidents, Johnson said.
Authorities were able to link the suspect’s vehicle – described as a white Volvo with California license plates – to the last two incidents.Johnson said.
A suspect was later identified and arrested in the Tacoma area, police said.
Pierce County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the possible suspect’s home Monday night, but his vehicle was not there, according to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department.
Shortly after midnight Tuesday, an officer saw the suspect vehicle pull into an apartment complex. Backup arrived and officers followed the vehicle, which was subsequently disabled by stop signs placed by a Fircrest police officer, according to authorities.
“Once the vehicle went over the poles, it stopped and officers initiated a felony arrest. The suspect complied and was taken into custody by a Fircrest officer and a WSP trooper,” the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department said in a news release.
I-5 was briefly closed for police to collect evidence, but was reopened Tuesday morning.
