Five children in Jombang are still being treated for dengue fever

JOMBANG – Until the end of 2021, cases of dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) are still an unfinished homework. This is because the number of patients hospitalized continues to grow. Until yesterday (31/12), there were still five children who were being treated intensively at the Jombang Hospital.

Director of Jombang Hospital, Dr. Puji Umbaran, said that the number of visits by pediatric patients with dengue fever continued to increase. “Today there are five pediatric patients who are being treated with dengue cases. That is, the trend is in line with the rainy season which is quite high,” he said yesterday.

According to data on visits to the pediatric inpatient room, he continued, there has been an increase in the last three months. If last October there were ten patients treated, November increased to 15 patients. Then this December increased again 25 patients. “We remind the public that dengue cases must be watched out for,” he added.

He explained, the cycle of transmission of DHF through the bite of the Aedes Aegypti mosquito is well known. Therefore, the most effective step to suppress the addition of dengue cases is by eradicating mosquito nests (PSN). “Plus closing, draining and burying, and providing anti-mosquito oil to children when they are active in the morning and afternoon,” he said.

It encourages local governments to strictly carry out routine socialization. “With the increase in the number of dengue cases, steps are being taken to disseminate information to the community intensively so that people are really vigilant,” explained Dr. Pudji.

After that, carry out epidemiological investigations around the homes of residents who tested positive for dengue. “This step was then followed up with an inspection of larvae, whether there were any in 15 surrounding houses. If there is, then a follow-up program of focused fogging will be carried out,”he concluded.
