Five people have been charged in connection with the death of actor Matthew Perry last fall. This is reported by the Reuters news agency.

According to Reuters, the defendants include two doctors and Perry’s assistant. According to lawyer Martin Estrada, the defendants belonged to a criminal network that has distributed large amounts of ketamine to Perry, among others.

One of the doctors now indicted can face up to 120 years in prison, reports AFP.

The Los Angeles Police Department held a news conference on Thursday night detailing the investigation.

Earlier, NBC News reported that a person believed to be connected to Perry’s death was arrested in Southern California on Thursday.

According to TMZ, several arrests were made. According to TMZ, at least one doctor and several drug dealers were among those arrested. According to the paper, the dealers supplied Perry with ketamine.

Last December, Perry’s cause of death was determined to be an accident caused by the “acute effects of ketamine”. Los Angeles police said in May they were investigating how Perry got himself ketamine.

According to sources obtained by TMZ, the police also became aware of other public figures who are connected to drugs during the investigative work. According to the magazine, these include, for example, Brooke Mueller, who is Charlie Sheen’s ex-spouse. However, according to TMZ, he is not suspected of a crime.

In June, it was reported that “several people” could be blamed for Perry’s death. According to sources obtained by People magazine, the investigation into Perry’s death is nearing completion.

Ketamine is used in medical contexts as an anesthetic, but due to its mind-altering effects it is also used as an intoxicant. Perry said in his memoir that he used ketamine daily in rehab. He said the substance eased his pain and helped with his depression.

Los Angeles police have not commented further on the arrests.

Perry died at his home in Los Angeles in October 2023. He was 54 years old when he died.
