Anyone looking for a good story in Football Manager 2024 should find it among five traditional clubs. One of them could also be playable for a longer period of time for the last time.
Five possible challenges for a late career in Football Manager 2024. Among them: 1. FC Köln. picture alliance / SI Games
They were once successful, then came the big crash. In the Bundesliga alone, traditional clubs have been repeatedly relegated to the second division in recent years. Most recently: 1. FC Köln. In Football Manager 2024, the history of Effzeh can be rewritten – just like that of four other renowned clubs.
FC Metz
It was the 117th minute when Ibrahima Wadji from AS Saint-Etienne sealed FC Metz’s relegation with his goal to make it 2-2. Anyone who wants to prevent that in FM 24 will have a good start. The squad includes Georgia’s European Championship rider Georges Mikautadze.
The transfer budget of three million euros also allows room for maneuver. If that is not enough for you, you can still sell some of the silverware. The club’s most important asset, however, is its youth department, which is in an above-average position.
1. FC Cologne
As if relegation in real life wasn’t enough of a burden for those in charge, the club is still serving a transfer ban. The good news for all virtual managers: This hasn’t been imposed in the game – so you can use signed players.
Although the transfer budget of 500,000 euros is quite low, some players have a high market value. Jonas Urbig, who is still on loan to SpVgg Greuther Fürth, is also a talent with dynamic potential in the club’s ranks.
US Sassuolo Football Club
After eleven years in the top Italian league, US Sassuolo Calcio was relegated after a weak season. This was rather surprising when you look at the squad. Domenico Berardi is an extremely good footballer who also performs well in Football Manager.
The game also has a future in mind – Luca Lipani, with his dynamic potential, has what it takes to become a future star. Add to that the excellent conditions of the virtual youth facility, which is why it is not unlikely that child prodigies will emerge from it.

FC Burnley
From relegated to FC Bayern Munich. If you look at Vincent Kompany’s last season at FC Burnley, his move to the Munich team seems remarkable. In Football Manager, you can start a new era earlier and possibly prevent relegation.
With Sander Berge, the club has a great talent in the squad – Zeki Amdouni and Jordan Beyer not only bring quality to the virtual pitch, but also have a high market value. This could be relevant, because the board is not making a transfer budget available at the start.
Vitesse Arnheim
Vitesse Arnheim may be playable in Football Manager 2024 for the last time – for a long time. 18 points were deducted from the Dutch club last year. The reason: not fulfilling the licensing requirements. In sporting terms, the 2017 cup winners were relegated to the second division, but things may get even worse for all fans and those responsible: the Dutch football association KNVB has withdrawn the club’s professional license.
The decision of the licensing committee was based on the fact that neither a bank account nor an auditor was available and that a balanced budget had not been submitted on time. Vitesse is now hoping for an investor and an appeal.
More about Football Manager 2025
The most important thing for anyone interested in a match with Vitesse: points are not deducted in the FM, and there is also a transfer budget of one million euros available. This means that the well-staffed squad can be further strengthened. To ensure that the players continue to develop, the club has an excellent training center that supports the players.
Five fates that can be prevented in Football Manager and shorten the wait for Football Manager 2025. This will be released a little later than expected due to difficulties in development. The football simulation is set to start its new era at the end of November.
