As the investigation moves towards the terrorist trail, an explosion took place Monday morning at Elizabeth Station in New Jersey the day after the attack in New York’s Chelsea neighborhood. The police also reportedly arrested five people in the same car on Sunday evening.
Several explosive devices were found on Sunday evening in a backpack placed in a trash can, the mayor of the American city of Elizabeth announced on CNN television on Monday. A demining robot was used to examine them, and “when he cut a wire on one of the devices, it exploded”, explained Chris Bollwage, adding that the bag had been spotted by two men who had saw “wires and a pipe” and informed the authorities.

In addition, according to US media, the five suspects were arrested in a vehicle traveling on the Belt Parkway, a highway that passes south of the Brooklyn district. He had just emerged from the Verrazano Bridge, the bridge that connects the Staten Island district to that of Brooklyn.
The New York FBI office said on its Twitter account that it had stopped a vehicle in connection with the investigation, but did not confirm any arrests and assured that “no one (had) been charged”. Asked by AFP, a spokesperson for the New York police refused to confirm these arrests, simply indicating that “the investigation was (continued)”.
The investigation concerns the explosion of a device early Saturday evening in the Chelsea district, which left 29 slightly injured. According to the New York Daily News, investigators have identified a suspect using CCTV recovered from Chelsea. But it is not established that this person was among the five passengers of the vehicle intercepted Sunday, still according to the site of the daily.
