Employees in a state of agitation, baggage and Alitalia planes leaving after disembarking the passengers but with their suitcases still in the hold: it has happened in the last three days of passion and union meetings, and it is only the beginning of the Alitalia chaos. The complaint comes from passengers and is confirmed by several trade union sources: Ugl, Cisl and Cub.

“There are many planes that have left without unloading their baggage by stopping over – explains Antonio Amoroso national secretary of the Cub Trasporti trade union – perhaps they have not loaded the baggage on the new route. The reconciliation takes place in the following days “. It shouldn’t happen but according to unions and passengers it happened on at least two routes, in flights to Fiumicino from Palermo and Olbia: the planes land, the passengers land, the aircraft waits for about an hour, the suitcases are not unloaded, the plane embarks other passengers and leaves again. With baggage from previous flights still in the hold.
“It is possible that they have not been able to unload the luggage – explains Stefania Fabbri regional secretary Fit Cisl – the state of agitation was predictable and everything is tried to save jobs and have guarantees for the future”. The confirmation also comes from a passenger who disembarked on Friday evening at Fiumicino from Olbia with an Alitalia flight.
“I disembarked at 5.30 pm, we went down to get our luggage and it was all off, a lady shone light on us with her torches – says passenger Bartolo Furgiuele – we were all crowded, without air conditioning, there were those who were screaming, it was a group Dante, the lost and found of Alitalia taken by storm. We begin to ask where the baggage was, by voice they tell us that they would not have arrived and that they had not been unloaded from the planes since the day before. A lady tells me that she was looking for her baggage since yesterday: Alitalia employees confirm that at that moment they were unloading the suitcases from the previous day. So I ask if the planes had left with the baggage in the holds and I try to talk to the financiers, but there were thousands of people: a Dante’s circle. An Alitalia employee arrives and tells those who live in Rome to leave their name and surname and return to the airport the next day to pick up their bags. And so we did ”.
A chaos that could only be the beginning of Alitalia’s epilogue. All this is due to the state of agitation of the employees who are asking the government for guarantees for work or at least for social safety nets, now that the new Ita company is being born. According to the trade unions, on Wednesday 8 September the managers of the new company had suddenly closed the negotiating table without their consent. Who now, given the chaos at the airport, have been recalled by the government.
“We expect that now a real negotiation will start again for the layoffs and to have guarantees for the workers in the new project”, explains Francesco Alfonsi national secretary Ugl Air transport. The climate is expectant, but the transition from Alitalia to Ita will not be painless. “The government does not pronounce on social safety nets – explains Antonio Amoroso national secretary of the Cub Trasporti trade union – workers must defend themselves from the Ita plan which provides for layoffs and dismemberment. Nothing is known about what will happen for handling, maintenance, employment levels and contracts ”.
