Jakarta –
A fitness influencer in Atlanta, United States named Lee Troutman shared his bitter experience of suffering from lymphoma or lymph node cancer. Lymphoma cancer is a rare, deadly type of cancer.
Lee said that initially, he experienced symptoms in the form of night sweats, fatigue, and pain in the pit of the stomach. He thought that the symptoms appeared because he was working 12-hour shifts as a fitness instructor.
At the end of 2022 when Lee was 20 years old, he was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma by the medical team who examined him.
When doctors first discovered the cancer, Lee could no longer walk, talk and eat. He even lost half his weight in just two months.
“The doctors didn’t think I would survive,” Lee was quoted as saying Daily Mail.
Lee said that he first had his condition checked in October 2021. At that time he was diagnosed with mononucleosis caused by the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV).
It didn’t stop there, Lee finally underwent several further tests to check his condition. During the examination the doctor found hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH), an immune reaction that can cause organs to die. Doctors also found non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma (NHL) in Lee’s body.
Lee’s cancer has spread to other organs. Starting from the brain lobes, brain stem, spine, liver, spine and hips.
“My mother and I found a doctor who agreed to take on my case, he gave me hope with a five percent chance of survival,” he said.
“He said if I wanted to survive the lymphoma and aggressive cancer treatment, I would need a bone marrow transplant. After that, I had a 70 percent chance of making it through,” continued Lee.
