‘Fit brain’ in the Brummen or Eerbeek bookstore

Wednesday 2 November 2022 20:00 t / m 22:00

BRUMMEN / EERBEEK – Our brain is something wonderful and complex. It is a living organ that responds to the way we organize and live our lives. You usually only think about it when something changes, or when things are ‘bad’ and the brain is sick. For example, consider dementia. Wendie Derks has studied this subject and is happy to share her knowledge of her with the public at the Eerbeek Library (November 2) and the Brummen Library (November 30). You can be here. Register via the agenda at www.bibliotheekbrummenvoorst.nl.

Keep your brain fit

What is dementia? Dementia is a collective name for more than 50 brain diseases, the best known and most common of which is Alzheimer’s disease. Dementia is a disease and that disease happens to you. Sometimes the process is treacherous and it takes years before it’s clear what’s going on. Sometimes it’s suddenly there in all its intensity. It affects young and old. Unfortunately, there is no cure for dementia. You can learn to take care of your brain. And it is actually very smart and advisable not to wait until your brain is sick. This way you can influence the condition of your brain and thus work preventively to keep your brain fit and challenged for as long as possible. Learned young became old!

About Wendie Derks

Wendie Derks has been working as a professional in the broad field of care and wellness for 30 years. Since December 2021 she has been working as coordinator of the Memory Support Center Brummen & Eerbeek. The Memory Support Center is part of the Dementia / Geriatrics East Veluwe network. The memory support center is a low-threshold arrangement within the dementia care chain. The Memory Support Center organizes activities (meetings, courses, peer groups, information meetings, training, etc.), provides information and advice and offers support and guidance to residents of our municipality suffering from forgetfulness or (initial) dementia and to their companions. Before Wendie became the coordinator of the memory center, she worked for several years as a health worker at Mollenhof, a beautiful nursery in the countryside (in Oeken). This is where her passion for the brain and her drive to devote herself to this target group was born. She is happy to share this knowledge.
