The financial difficulties of the electric car manufacturer Fisker have become one of the central topics of the industry in recent weeks. Fisker’s efforts to agree with a large car manufacturer about investing in the company have failed – in this context, the negotiations were with Nissan. In an effort to save itself from collapse, the company has drastically reduced the prices of available cars.
Now the price of the Fisker Ocean base model in the US is 25 thousand dollars, which makes it by far the cheapest electric car in the country. To make the price reduction more visible, the flagship Ocean Extreme is now $24,000 cheaper than a couple of weeks ago. Price reduced from $61,500 to $37,500. In this version, the car develops 564 horsepower and can reach 100 km/h speed in less than 4 seconds.
Technically, these are 2023 models, but they are equipped with the latest 2024 model software, and the manufacturer says that some of the cars have extras worth about 7,000 dollars. Discounts are, of course, standard practice in the auto industry, but such reductions are an exceptional case and an obvious desperate move to try to save what can still be saved.
Fisker’s financial situation is not bright – the company does not have enough funds to survive at least until the end of this year without large-scale investments. Currently, production has been suspended for several weeks, which also does not encourage optimism. Last year, Fisker was able to produce about 10,000 cars, but only about 4,700 reached customers, the rest remained in the warehouse. There are also rumors that Fisker has had significant accounting problems, as a result of which the manufacturer delivered machines but did not collect payment, losing millions of dollars. By identifying the mistakes, Fisker was able to recover most of the money, but this required resources that are not really there.
