Fishmongers boycott supplying Moroccan markets

The National Confederation of Fishmongers decided to boycott the wholesale purchase and distribution of fish in Moroccan markets, on Wednesday and Thursday, March 8 and 9, in a protest movement to demand the retraction of the “certificate of traceability” requirement.

The traceability certificate is like an identification paper that proves the legality of the product and all its details, but the Confederation considers that the National Hunting Office is not qualified to apply this certificate, as it criticizes the information systems of the office for being unable to record all quantities and their source, which causes professionals to lose large quantities of the product and incur great losses. Traders have great losses, according to the CNT.

And before taking the decision to prevent the supply of fish to the national markets, the Confederation had engaged in a series of dialogues with the Ministry of Maritime Fisheries last Monday, without resulting in a solution that satisfies both parties.
