An American fisherman spent half a minute in the mouth of a humpback whale and survived. He was only slightly injured. Experts speak of a miracle, write American media.
Michael Packard (56) was diving for lobster yesterday when he was suddenly lifted up. Then it got pitch dark. At first the fisherman thought he had been attacked by a shark, but he felt no sharp teeth and had nothing of his own.
“Then I thought, oh my god, I’m in the mouth of a whale and it’s going to swallow me.” tells Packard. “I thought I was dying.”
He could breathe through the oxygen bottle he was still carrying. Packard thinks he was stuck in the mouth for 30 seconds. Then the whale surfaced, shook its head, and spat out the fisherman. He was rescued by his colleagues.
It is very rare for someone to be swallowed by a whale. Adult humpback whales can reach 16 meters in length with a weight of 30 tons. They mainly eat crustaceans and fish. Humpback whales are not aggressive. Therefore, experts believe that the fisherman was not swallowed intentionally.
