Fish on the floor: NVWA closes company IJmuiden

In IJmuiden, a fish company has been shut down by order of the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority. During an inspection last Thursday, inspectors found an extremely dirty business space and tools. The fish, which partly still had to be processed, was also lying on the work floor.

The NVWA had previously visited the company, but then it remained with a warning regarding hygiene. “What the inspectors found during a re-inspection was much more serious,” the inspector said. “It really wasn’t clean, the commercial space was dirty and fish that still had to be sold was on the floor.”

The company is immediately closed and all fish has been destroyed so that it can no longer come on the market. “It concerns one company and as soon as they have everything in order, they can open again. After that, we will continue to monitor closely.”
