First-year medical student receives the Ramón Mellado Scholarship • WIPR

(CyberNews) – Nicole Oliveras Alsinaa first-year student at the School of Medicine of the Medical Sciences Campus (RCM) of the University of Puerto Rico, was recognized on Tuesday with the Ramón Mellado Parsons Scholarship, endowed with $3,500, to support the expenses of her first year of studies. The scholarship was awarded by the Mellado Family Foundation in a ceremony held at the RCM Rectory.

“We congratulate you, Nicole, on this successful start to achieving your academic goals. Medicine is a prestigious career that requires vocation and passion, and I am sure that the training you will receive in our educational centers will open the doors to a great professional future,” said Dr. Myrna Quiñones Feliciano in written statements.

The grandson of Dr. Ramón Mellado Parsons, Manuel Mellado Delgado, highlighted the mental strength and personal and educational background of Nicole Oliveras Alsina, who was selected for her effort and dedication. The scholarship is named after Dr. Mellado, who was a transcendent figure in the education and politics of Puerto Rico.

“I feel honored to be part of Dr. Mellado Parsons’ legacy. I am here today for the love of Puerto Rico and to contribute as much as I can to our society from Medicine,” said Oliveras Alsina.
