The number of shootings on the decline
The number of shootings is on the decline in the American financial capital. As of October 7, some 600 people had been caught in a shootout since the start of the year, down 1.1% from the same period in 2017.

But this slight decrease does not prevent peaks. The weekend of October 6 and 7 had been “terrible”, with several shootings in Brooklyn and the Bronx, said Terence Monahan, without giving specific figures.
On the other hand, the number of murders is on the rise again this year, whereas it had been declining since the 1950s. In 2017, the authorities had recorded 292 murders, a record. In the first half of 2018, the city recorded 147 murders, an 8% increase from the same period of 2017, mostly concentrated in a few neighborhoods in Brooklyn and the Bronx.
