First video promises nightmarish sci-fi journey

We would recognize these red curls anywhere: Im first video for season 2 by Matryoshka (OT: Russian Doll) we celebrate a reunion with Natasha Lyonne’s edgy heroine Nadia. This apparently has to deal with some nightmarishly surreal complications of a temporal and fatal nature. The first season was cult, after that we had to wait more than three years for the sequel. But the time will soon come, as the video confirms.

What is Russian Doll aka Matryoshka about on Netflix?

In der Netflix-Comedy-Serie Matryoshka (OT: Russian Doll) Nadia from New York wants to get away from her birthday party. But she soon realizes that there is no escape for her. She finds herself in a time warp that even death cannot end.

From the start, the series quickly became a cult thanks to its charismatic leading actress, original story and surreal ideas. This is what my colleague Max wrote about Matryoshka season 1 when it came out:

As Nadja, Lyonne transcends with her glorious and almost manic no-fucks-given attitude through New York’s East Village at night and has to come to terms with her own traumata between pseudo-intellectual hipster parties, rusty fire escapes and late night shops flooded with artificial light. With each new time loop pulen themselves more layers of her thick (eye shadow) facade and release new insights into the tragic inner life of Nadia, which was scarred by her omnipresent and deceased mother.

The series maintains this no-fucks-given attitude, as the first video shows.

When is Matryoshka Season 2 coming to Netflix?

Matryoshka season 2 starts on 20. April 2022 worldwide on Netflix. Lead actress Natasha Lyonne acts this time also as showrunner of the time warp series with a sci-fi twist.
