First Trump supporter convicted of storming Capitol

The first Trump supporter to storm the Capitol in January has been convicted. A 49-year-old Indiana woman who pleaded guilty to community service and ordered to pay $500 in damages.

“I was there to peacefully show support for President Trump and I am ashamed that the day turned out to be a barbaric display of violence,” Anna Morgan-Lloyd said during the hearing Wednesday via video link. She said she was only in the Capitol for about 10 minutes. She would not have destroyed anything or used violence.

After the storming of January 6, she wrote on Facebook that it was “the most beautiful day” of her life. Morgan-Lloyd cooperated with the prosecutors after her arrest, so her sentence is relatively low.

The storming of the Capitol took place after a speech by then-President Trump nearby. Trump’s election defeat was sealed in the Capitol at the time. Five people, including a police officer, were killed in the riots. Various charges have been filed against some 500 people who were present at the storm.
