The first trailer for the upcoming biopic of Bob Marley the Reinaldo Marcus Green, Bob Marley: One Lovepremiered on Thursday (July 6).
The film, which will hit theaters next year, stars British actor Kingsley Ben-Adir (One Night in Miami), 37, as the reggae music icon, and is produced by Marley’s son, Ziggy Marley.
One Love recounts the rise to fame of the ‘Three Little Birds’ singer and the turbulent social conditions that led to his One Love Peace concert in 1978, which occurred during a violent political crisis in Jamaica.
“It was exciting and emotional,” Ziggy told Entertainment Weekly to shoot the movie.
“I was very focused on making sure we represented him well, and I took the responsibility that was given to me to help Reinaldo very seriously. We explore different elements of Bob that people don’t know about, different emotions that he went through. In fact, I also learned a few things. As someone who was there in this period, it brings back a lot of memories and things that I had hidden before. It was a very emotional journey.”
Green, 41, is best known for directing King Richardthe 2021 biopic starring Will Smith as the father of tennis stars Venus and Serena Williams.
“Getting the blessing from Ziggy and the family to come and be the captain of the ship was important to me because I knew that I was going to have access to things that are not in the public domain: real conversations and memories of people who were there in the room.” Green told EW.
“Ziggy was young, but he was there. And at 11 or 12, that’s the most impressionable time. You remember a lot from those time periods.”
Lashana Lynch plays Marley’s wife and Ziggy’s mother, Rita, whom the musician married in 1966; Jesse Cilio plays Marley’s father, Norval, and James Norton plays Island Records founder Chris Blackwell.

The film tells the story of Marley up to the time of his death in 1981, which was the result of melanoma, an aggressive type of cancer skin. She was 36 years old.
He had 11 children, three with Rita, two adopted from other relationships of Rita’s, and several others with different women.
The premiere of Bob Marley: One Love is scheduled for January 12, 2024 in the United States.
